Belly Up

There are still no signs of infection in the fluid that they drew from Carly's shunt which is good news. Her belly is sticking out pretty far though and there are no explanations why the fluid from the shunt is not being absorbed in her abdomen. Dr Gupta decided that he would like to tap her belly and collect some of the fluid to make sure there is not an infection localized there. He will tap it either Wednesday or Thursday and although it is an outpatient procedure Carly will need to be anesthetized while they do it. Carly is still in a good mood most of the day, and her smile can brighten anyone's spirits.

Love, Brad

We hope the doctors will be able to quickly find the cause of the drainage problem and that the tapping procedure will go smoothly.
We love you-

Oh, to hold her and to see you...I am there in spirit. Sending unending prayers for a good result from the tap later this week. Again we see that Carly's amazing strength and bravery is what she experiences every day from her parents.

Dear Brad, Christa and Carly,
This is Susan, one of Jenny's best friends, I have been following your lives daily--thinking of you and loving you and just realized today that I could post a comment! Remember Brad, I babysat you often and even taught you how to swim! In fact, even though we have never met, I think Christa should know that you sat in the back end of the Nelson's station wagon on the way to the library looking backwards jamming to "If you think you're sexy" at 3 years old. Yes, Christa, Brad was a Rod Stewart fan at that point! There are no words for me to express how I feel for you all, so I will just echo the support, strength and belief in beautiful Carly's well being that all of your other wonderful friends do. Carly, just wait until your dad teaches you to swim!
Love, Susan

Thank you as always for the updates, we are hoping you both are getting some time to rest through such a stressful time. Sounds as if you're still in great hands with these doctors, certainly a lot of people thinking about the best way to solve all these medical mysteries. Love you all - xo,

Becca & Brian
