Another One Down

Carly's surgery is over and she is recovering in the PICU once again. It turns out that the tube that ran from the fluid cavity in her brain (ventricles) to the shunt valve was clogged with tissue. This clog made it impossible for the extra fluid to drain, resulting in too much pressure in her head. They replaced the clogged tube and spent a lot of time making sure the shunt had a watertight seal at her skull. Carly should be feeling an immediate relief from the drainage of the fluid and will hopefully be back to herself in a few days.

Love, Brad

Thanks Brad for the update. I can't imagine having to go through all this, but Carly (and you and Christa) seems to be holding up. Hopefully the improvements to the shunt will have Carly back on her feet soon enough.

Good to hear the news... You guys are going through so much and yet... you take the time to keep all of us up to date. Just can't believe how strong you are... Lots of good thoughts and strength for the three of you, Cécile Cornillon

wow, Carly is surrounded by a great team. Even though it must be so intense and incredibly challenging not knowing what is bothering her at different times you guys seem really tuned into her needs and the hospital seems attentive and efficient as well. glad the surgery went well, we've been sending positive thoughts her way today, too.
wishing your little girl gets some much-deserved rest and relief so that you can all get back to playing and enjoying each other really soon, sheila

I'm so glad! Stumbled onto your blog via Elm City Dad and have been lurking since the beginning...Carly amazes me with her strength and good cheer throughout all she has gone through, and you and Christa amaze me as well! Here's hoping this does the trick and Carly can spend at least a few months growing and playing before any more surgeries or hospital stays.

As I read the story of Carly it occurs to me that it is no small coincidence that her middle name is Grace. Time after time there is a point of being 'down' and then she is 'up' again. Seems like God's grace to me.

Love to all of Carly's family,
Lee Schroeder
